Thomas Muller has revealed that he is "totally dumbfounded" and "angry" at Joachim Low's decision to axe himself, Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels from the German national team.

'I thank Mats, Jerome, and Thomas for the many successful, extraordinary and unique years we shared, ' Low said in a statement issued by the German FA. It was surprising that Joachim Low maintained his position as the national team coach despite their horrific campaign which even saw them lose to South Korea in the final group stage match.

Muller, Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels were all informed on Tuesday that they were no longer in Low's plans, part of an ongoing shake-up following Germany's woeful performance at last year's World Cup.

"The German head coach confirmed his decision on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the first worldwide of the year against Serbia in Wolfsburg on 20th March". We want to give the team a new face.

'2019 is a new beginning for the Germany national team, ' he said. I'm convinced that that is the correct step.

"However, I respect the new direction and understand the coach's decision". But Mats, Jerome and I are able to still play football on a top level.

"The national team's young players will receive the space necessary to develop fully".

"It was important for me that I could personally tell the players and the bosses at Bayern about my thoughts and plans", Low explained.

"However, we believe the timing and circumstances of the announcement of this decision to the players and to the public for questionable".

Muller, 29, has scored 10 goals at World Cups, winning the golden boot in 2010. "They have to take responsibility now".

"We were surprised that this happened as part of an unannounced visit at (Bayern training complex) Saebener Strasse", said Rummenigge and Salihamidzic. I was always proud to wear the jersey, I've given everything, I want to thank you for your support, it was an incredible journey'. "But I would have obviously wished for a different departure".

"I am sad about this news because it has always been the greatest thing for me to represent my country", the defender wrote on Instagram.

"I was young myself and reliant on older players to make room for me".

Hummels and Boateng, both 30, played together in the 2009 U21 European championship triumph as Germany started to reap the first rewards of a major and sustained investment in youth players that had started seven years earlier.
