Russian Federation has obtained a new type of strategic weapon.

In Wednesday's test, the weapon was launched from the Dombarovskiy missile base in the southern Ural Mountains. The Kremlin says it successfully hit a designated practice target on the Kura shooting range on Kamchatka, 6,000 kilometers (3,700 miles) away.

In a bellicose speech in March, Putin presented the Avangard missile as one of an array of new nuclear weapons that Russian Federation needed to counter new threats posed by the development of the United States missile defense system.

Mr Putin was speaking after overseeing what the Kremlin said was a pre-deployment test of the new missile system, called Avangard.

He also said the missile would enter service with the Strategic Missile Forces next year.

Russia's focus on advanced, nuclear-capable hypersonic weapons with purported first-strike capability like Avangard reflects a particular-kind of strategic thinking: researching, developing, and manufacturing a few un-interceptable nuclear warheads that can be more cost-effective over the long term than trying to match NATO's combined output of conventional strategic weapons.

Weinstein back in court seeking dismissal of sex assault case
Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein will face trial on charges that he sexually assaulted two women, a judge has ruled. Additional charges, of a criminal sexual act and predatory sexual assault, were filed against Weinstein in July.

It said the test involved launching an Avangard missile from the Dombarovskiy missile base in the southern Ural Mountains to hit a practice target on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the far east of Russian Federation, 6,000 kilometers (3,700 miles) away.

"The new Avangard missile system is invincible for today's and future air defence systems and missile defence systems".

The agreement had been signed between Russian Federation and the U.S. in 1972.

The Avangard is a strategic intercontinental ballistic missile system equipped with a hypersonic glide vehicle.

President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Russian Federation would deploy its first regiment of hypersonic nuclear-capable missiles next year, saying the move meant his country now had a new type of strategic weapon.

He emphasized that no other country now has hypersonic weapons.
