The outage began Thursday, but it affected more than just Internet customers because many US businesses and even some regular folks, including many in Nebraska, have switched to voice-over-Internet-protocol phone systems that rely on the Internet to transmit business calls.
A timeline for restoration of CenturyLink phone and internet services was not given nor was the amount of users impacted by the outages.
The statement provided no other details, including the cause of the problem and how many customers were affected. A media representative was not available for comment.
Neither company indicated how many customers were affected.
At around 4 or 5 a.m., Lewis County 911 Communications posted to Facebook saying: "911 lines are working again". Other areas of the country also experiencing 911 outages included parts of Missouri, Idaho and Arizona.
