At 5:00 am, Tropical Storm Kirk was near 13.5 North...58.3 West or about 200 miles (320 km) east of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The tropical storm was travelling westerly at 18 miles per hour and had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. Because hurricane preparedness activities become hard once winds reach tropical storm force, the Watch is issued 48 hours in advance of the onset of tropical storm force winds.
A tropical storm warning is now in effect for Barbados, Dominica, St. Lucia, Martinique and Guadeloupe. The storm's center will move across the Lesser Antilles by Thursday evening on its current track.
The most serious threat from Kirk is expected to be from rainfall.
A cyclone is a closed-circulation rotating storm that depending on its wind-speed intensity, is classified, from weakest to strongest, as a tropical depression, tropical storm or hurricane. The minimum pressure is 1,002 mb.

At one stage, Woods was also projected to win the FedEx Cup outright with Justin Rose dropping rapidly down the leaderboard. The 14-time major champion's last tournament victory was in August 2013 in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.
As Tropical Storm Kirk approached, Nurse said heavier rains were expected as the day progressed, and noted it may become necessary to issue a flood watch or warning.
The storm will continue moving westward towards the Windward Islands, forecasters said. Weakening is expected on Friday and this weekend after the storm enters the Caribbean.
Wind: Tropical storm conditions are expected to first reach the warning area by Thursday afternoon, making outside preparations hard or unsafe. Leslie could be reclassified as a subtropical or tropical later Thursday. Tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area by Thursday afternoon.
N.H.C. said interests elsewhere in the central and northern Lesser Antilles, which includes the U.S. Virgin Islands, should monitor the progress of Kirk as additional warnings or watches could be issued tonight.
