"[We] previously endorsed the nomination of Judge Kavanaugh on the basis of his legal credentials and his reputation as a committed textualist", it said. The group of four is seen as the key to Kavanaugh winning confirmation, or failing to land a seat on the Supreme Court.
Flake said Kavanaugh was entitled to the "presumption of innocence ... absent corroborating evidence".
Blumenthal criticized Republicans on the other side of the room who "have been silent" during the hearing.
The incident allegedly happened at a gathering of teenagers at a house, when Judge Kavanaugh and his friend were both drunk.
"We make this request because of the ABA's respect for the rule of law and due process under law, " the ABA letter to committee leadership said.
The ABA is not simply calling for a delay in the vote.
She told the committee she feared Kavanaugh would rape and accidentally kill her during the alleged assault.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote Friday morning on the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, following a day of dramatic testimony by the appellate judge and Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who has accused him of sexual assault.
After the hearing, the magazine decided his name should be withdrawn, noting: "We continue to support the nomination of judges according to such principles-but Judge Kavanaugh is not the only such nominee available". Indeed, they couldn't even sustain that ruse for very long, as numerous of them dissolved into anger and whiny lashing out at precisely the moments when Ford's charges were putting Kavanaugh in a hard position.
The statement did not indicate which way Flake was leaning. "There is no question that Judge Kavanaugh is qualified to serve on the Supreme Court, and in a different political environment, he would be confirmed overwhelmingly". Republicans praised Ford's bravery in coming forward, but many of them said her account would not affect their support for Kavanaugh.
Without evidence, Trump accuses China of interfering in U.S. midterm elections
Beijing's retaliatory tariffs on $60bn worth of United States goods were due to go into effect soon after the USA sanction. Netanyahu said that he was not surprised by Trump's endorsement of a two-state solution. "And we are winning on trade".
"This is the most unethical sham since I've been in politics", he declared furiously.
There were two distinct juries whose opinions of Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who testified that he sexually assaulted her, matter: the millions of Americans who followed the proceedings and will vote in a bit more than a month, and more immediately the small handful of senators who remain undecided about whether or not they'll vote to confirm Kavanaugh.
Trump missed hardly a moment of the proceedings, relying on DVRs to keep up on the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing from his private office on Air Force One as he traveled from NY to Washington, and continued monitoring back at the White House, where Ford's voice echoed from TVs around the building.
However he fervently denies allegations of abuse from several other woman.
Maybe that last charge is entirely fanciful. Democratic senators questioned her directly, but the 11 Republican members on the committee instead chose to have a female sex crimes prosecutor from Arizona question Ford. Why haven't Senators subpoenaed him? "She gave good testimony".
Republican leaders' goal is to hold a final Senate vote early next week.
Graham cautioned them against voting no.
But Democrats did not buy Kavanaugh's self-portrayal of an angelic choir boy. Flake has been chased out of the Senate by the rage of the Trump/GOP base.
Indeed, if Flake did the right thing and insisted on a further inquiry, he might be able to ultimately vote for Kavanaugh after a serious effort to resolve his own "doubt" has been made.
Now that the ABA and Dershowitz have called for a delay pending a reopened Federal Bureau of Investigation background check, Flake even had the "cover" to do this. Wouldn't that be a better outcome? Instead, he chose to capitulate to that doubt, to the rage of the base, and to the refusal of his GOP colleagues to learn the full truth.
