President Trump is standing by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh after another round of allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior, this time from when Kavanaugh was a student at Yale. Ford claims both she and Kavanaugh were in high school at the time of the assault.
Ford has said Kavanaugh tried removing her clothes and covered her mouth to prevent screams after he pinned her on a bed during a high school party.
Presidential adviser Kellyanne Conway told CBS that the accusations against Mr Kavanaugh sound like "a vast left-wing conspiracy", using rhetoric that echoed Hillary Clinton's 1998 description of allegations that her husband, President Bill Clinton, had had affairs. The politically charged hearing has already been criticized by Democrats who are calling for an FBI investigation into Kavanaugh's conduct.
The New Yorker's report says at least four Democratic senators have received details of the allegation. "My lifelong record of promoting dignity and equality for women starting with the women who knew me when I was 14 years old".
But in his defense of Kavanaugh and of the Supreme Court nomination process, McConnell's complaints are transparently hypocritical, as CNN host Brooke Baldwin pointed out Monday in response to a speech from the Senate majority leader.
Kavanaugh, a judicial conservative and Trump's second Supreme Court pick, was nominated to fill the vacancy created by Justice Anthony Kennedy's retirement. We called Trump's pick "uninspiring", and we made it clear when the scandal first reared its ugly head that we did not care whether Kavanaugh weathered the storm to claim his lifetime spot on the high court.
"Brett Kavanaugh's history with women shows he is 100 percent unqualified to serve on the Supreme Court, and he should withdraw immediately", Carmona said in a statement.

Bloomberg reported that while Saudi Arabia had no desire to push prices higher than $80, it may no longer be possible to avoid it. The supply concerns outweighed an increase in oil inventories in the United States reported late on Tuesday.
On Kavanaugh, Trump stressed: "I am with him all the way".
Sen. Dick Durbin, an Illinois Democrat on the committee, said Sunday he believed Ford's requests have been reasonable and that she deserves a fair hearing to determine whether her allegations are serious enough to vote down Kavanaugh's nomination. Hoping to head that off, he and his GOP supporters went on offense, including the release of a letter he sent the Judiciary panel accusing his opponents of launching "smears, pure and simple".
Republican staffers on the committee said they had made an overture to Ms. Ramirez - but pointed out she never brought her allegations to them, instead going to the press.
But the full Fox News interview reveals Kavanaugh was not referring to the Ford and Ramirez allegations.
Both Ford and Ramirez want the FBI to investigate.
The new allegations raised broader questions about a nominee whose confirmation seemed all but certain two weeks ago. And yes, people might have had too many beers on occasion and people generally in high school - I think all of us have probably done things we look back on in high school and regret or cringe a bit, but that's not what we're talking about. Ford and Kavanaugh are scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee Thursday.
Ramirez, who told The New Yorker that she had been drinking at the time, was initially reluctant to speak publicly "partly because her memories contained gaps", the magazine said. He has also said that the absence of a note on his 1982 calendar about the party at which he allegedly assaulted Blasey Ford backed up his denial.
Durbin told ABC's "This Week" that some Republicans "reached out to Democratic senators and assured them that they are looking to this as kind of a determination as to how their final vote" on Kavanaugh is cast.
