James is behind a three-part documentary series, "Shut Up and Dribble", announced Monday by Showtime. According to Deadline, Shut Up and Dribble is specifically about exploring "the changing role of athletes in our fraught cultural and political environment, through the lens of the National Basketball Association". The title refers to a comment Fox News' Laura Ingraham made in February after the Golden State Warriors declined an invitation to the White House after winning the NBA Finals.
A brief synopsis from Showtime lays out how the controversy factors in, as well as a rough timeline of the path director Gotham Chopra will tread.
In a 10-minute take-down that came in response to Trump's tweet calling Lemon and National Basketball Association superstar LeBron James dumb, Lemon said the president's "nasty, hateful swipe" is just the latest example of "one of the oldest canards of America's racist past and present - that black people are of inferior intelligence". "So keep the political commentary to yourself, or as someone once said, shut up and dribble".
Showtime president and CEO David Nevins said the show will be "an important, insightful docuseries that should bring fans and fellow citizens to a higher level of discourse".
Giuliani won't detail Mueller's alleged 'conflict'
Moscow has denied such interference and Trump has denied any collusion by his campaign or any obstruction of justice. Trump and Giuliani's stance has moved from there was "no collusion" to "collusion is not a crime " after the U.S.
Lemon then asked his viewers to reflect: "I've wondered if he will succeed, if President Trump is the one who has the finger on the pulse of this country".
James said he believes sports should be used to unify. "I'd sit across from Barack [Obama], though".
Last week, the USA president tweeted that Lemon "made Lebron look smart, which isn't easy to do", in response to a conversation the two men had about Trump's previous attacks on black athletes. "He made Lebron (sic) look smart, which isn't easy to do. And just as she always has, the first lady encourages everyone to have an open dialogue about issues facing children today". Ingraham published a book way back in 2006 entitled, you guessed it, Shut Up And Sing: How Elites from Hollywood, Politics and the Media Are Subverting America.
