Wednesday's air quality in Great Falls is rated "moderate" by the Montana Department of Environmental Quality, meaning that unusually sensitive people should limit the length and intensity of outdoor activities.
"The truth is we're all inhaling these things and so we all have to sort of monitor how we're feeling and know ourselves and work with our doctors to figure out what's best for us when the air quality gets like this", said Dr. Mark Lysyshyn of Vancouver Coastal Health.
Using the hashtag #SeattleSmoke on Twitter Wednesday, residents were noting health complications and other issues from the haze.
The visibility has gotten so bad in most locations that people can only see between three and five miles ahead.
Much of the smoke that has blanketed the region is from wildfires in British Columbia, said National Weather Service meteorologist Art Gaebel.
"It's just kind of something you half-imagine through the smoke", he said.
Still, experts say that relief is on its way.
