U.S. and North Korean officials held "productive" talks Sunday to discuss the return of U.S. service members' remains missing since the Korean War, U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said.

Secretary Pompeo said both American and North Korean search teams would ramp-up their efforts to recover the missing remains of nearly 8,000 American servicemen.

According to the report, these details emerged after USA and North Korean officials held working-level talks on Monday in the truce village of Panmunjom.

After their June 12 summit in Singapore, President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had agreed to restart the repatriation process, and both signed a statement promising the "immediate repatriation of those already identified".

US and South Korean officials say they are ready to help North Korea revive its economy if it gives up its nuclear program.

The latest talks began at the border truce village of Panmunjom yesterday, the South's Yonhap news agency said, citing a Seoul official. Gen. Michael A. Minihan, chief of staff for the U.N. Command.

The amnesty, which will take effect on August 1, will be granted to those who were convicted of crimes against the state and its people, the Korean Central News Agency said.

Trump sheds light on his crucial error at Putin summit
It was easily Trump's worst moment as president, even if it wasn't - as some over the top Democratic critics said, treasonable. Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said Mr Trump was trying to "squirm away" from his comments alongside Mr Putin .

It also granted amnesties in 2012, to celebrate the centennial of the birth of Kim's grandfather and the founder of the North, Kim Il Sung, and the 70th birthday of his father, Kim Jong Il, the same year.

About 7,700 United States soldiers are listed as missing from the Korean War, and 5,300 of the missing are believed to be in North Korea.

The official said North Korea informed the US delegation that it will return 50 to 55 sets of remains, which would be the first repatriation of war dead remains since 2007.

According to a report in ABC News, a planned meeting between the two nations, scheduled to have taken place on Thursday, has been postponed on North Korea's request.

President Trump then turned to criticizing media outlets for not focusing on the positive results of talks between the US and North Korea, "Who knows how it will all turn out in the end, but why isn't the Fake News talking about these wonderful facts?" -North Korea military search teams conducted 33 recovery operations that collected 229 sets of American remains. The meeting was followed up by another working-level meeting on Monday to work out the next steps.

The developments fueled skepticism over North Korea's commitment to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula as promised during last month's meeting between Trump and Kim in Singapore. "Great progress being made", Trump said in a tweet that included a copy of the letter in Korean and an English translation.
