A U.S. judge on Monday will weigh President Donald Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort's bid to delay a criminal trial scheduled to begin this week on more than two dozen financial charges, including bank and tax fraud.
The federal judge in Alexandria, Virginia, scheduled a hearing to consider his lawyers' request to delay his trial for several months.
But U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III on July 23 delayed the trial until July 31 to give Manafort's lawyers more time to review documents.
Mueller's team has four "phones or iPads" and one laptop belonging to Gates, who pleaded guilty earlier this year and has been cooperating with the investigation.
The witnesses are James Brennan, Donna Duggan, Conor O'Brien, Cindy Laporta and Dennis Raico.
According to Courthouse News, his trial was to begin on Tuesday, but Manafort's defense team claimed they had failed to review thousands of documents in evidence, hoping to wait for copies to be provided to them in discovery rather than attempting to procure copies at their own expense.
Downing said some of the data could be relevant notes the Gates wrote to himself.

Molinari clinched it with a driver that skirted the edge of a pot bunker, leaving him a lob wedge from 112 yards to 5 feet. Three of the world's top five players missed the cut, including top-ranked Dustin Johnson and No. 2 Justin Thomas.
Ellis also unsealed the names of five witnesses who have been granted partial immunity from prosecution in exchange for their testimony in Manafort's case.
"The fact that you're not using something does not mean it's not usable by the defense", Ellis responded.
It will be the first trial to originate in the special counsel's investigation of Russia's role in the 2016 election.
Manafort is facing charges related to alleged financial crime from before he joined the Trump campaign.
"I don't anticipate that a government witness will utter the word 'Russia", Andres said. "Evidence concerning Mr. Yanukovych, the Party of Regions, and the work that Mr. Manafort performed on their behalf poses the substantial risk that the jurors will be sidetracked by Mr. Yanukovych's controversial tenure as Ukraine's president, his removal from power in the midst of public protests, the charges of treason brought against him by the Ukrainian government, and his current exile in Russian Federation".
Ellis has questioned Mueller's probe and said Manafort's indictment appeared aimed at leveraging him to provide information on Trump.
