Amazon called this year's Prime Day the "biggest shopping event" in its history as shoppers bought more than 100 million products during the 36-hour sale. The company says Prime members around the world ordered 100 million products, devouring everything from specials on organic strawberries at its Whole Foods Markets to Fire TV Sticks with Alexa voice remote.
Customers purchased more than five million items in each of the following categories: Toys, Beauty products, PCs and computer accessories, Apparel and Kitchen products.
Amazon appeared to just before 4 p.m. (EST), or about an hour into its 36-hour annual promotion.
Prime Day also lasts six hours longer than past year and is four new countries.
A year ago millions of shoppers signed up for Prime membership on Prime Day, helping to increase the total number of Prime subscribers to over 100 million as of April 2018.
Within minutes of the sale opening on July 16th, Amazon's website crashed, with online shoppers unable to access the sales or make purchases for the first few hours. As such, all of the Prime Deal listings on the main page are gone until Amazon can sort out a fix for the crash.

Thousands of products are being discounted for this year's Prime Day sale. Amazon doesn't provide a geographical breakdown of its Prime members, but Prime Members are believed to spend more on average than customers who don't have the service, analysts have said.

Though only available to USA consumers, Amazon offered savings at Whole Foods Market during Prime Day, with the best-selling item being organic strawberries.
