The four-part series, titled The Case Against Adnan Syed, will look at the circumstances surrounding Syed's arrest in 1991, his trial, and the developments after Serial aired (he has been granted a retrial).
"The Case Against Adnan Syed" will run four hours and be directed by Academy Award nominee Amy Berg ("Deliver Us from Evil").
In 2014 the podcast Serial took over the internet when it was released.
The documentary, which has reportedly been in production since 2015, doesn't have a premiere date yet. Adnan is now in prison, serving a life sentence plus 30 years.
After Syed's conviction was vacated, A&E reached out to a friend of Hae Min Lee's who identified herself only as "Debbie" when appearing on an episode of "Grace vs. Abrams".

The podcast has since become the most-downloaded podcast in history, allowing it to enter the social consciousness in ways never before seen. The State of Maryland appealed the lower court judge's ruling, but on March 29, 2018, the Court of Special Appeals also ruled to vacate Syed's conviction and granted him the retrial he has been waiting for.
